Akzo Nobel Baltics AS, located in Rapla/Estonia, produces, among others, paints and varnishes for lumber preservation.

Recently three pigging lines DN50 were installed that connect the product storage area with the filling area.

The main goals were to considerably reduce the amount of cleaning water to be treated in the sewage treatment plant and to avoid cross contamination issues between different products.

I.S.T. Molchtechnik GmbH delivered the piggable valves, flanged piggable pipe sections as well as the main electrical cabinet, local remote operating panels and the software.

Testing and commissioning took place in December 2023 and the pigging lines are now operating in the day-to-day business.

We thank Akzo Nobel Baltics AS for the friendly partnership in this project and the permission to publish this project summary.

A complex industrial valve with multiple actuators, valves, and electrical connections connected to a piping system. The components are made of metal, with blue and yellow accents from the cables and valves.

Pig launching stations with remote operating panels

Industrial pigging station with green cylindrical pressure vessel, operator stations with control panels and complex piping system with valves and pneumatic actuators in a production plant.

Pig launching station and 3-Way diverter valve

A 3-way valve in an industrial environment, connected to a complex piping system supported by blue steel girders. The valve is equipped with an actuator and electrical components.

HMI Visualisation of pigging line 3

A schematic representation of an industrial process, labeled "Overview PL3," with various valves (AV, PV), a pressure gauge (PIS), and a pigging line. The diagram shows "Product inlet by hose," "Product flow," "Cleaning direction," and "Product outlet." There are also status indicators for alarms and operating states, as well as information such as "Pig counter PL3" and "Active step PL3." The area on the left is highlighted in yellow and labeled "ATEX ZONE 2." The display is from "RIETEC Engineering GmbH" and shows "User Name: Operator" and the date/time "05/02/2024 18:53:27."
